What are Striae commonly known as stretch marks? Stretch marks are dermal cicatrix that develops when skin contract or expand at an accelerated pace. This abrupt disturbance occurs within the dermis (middle layer) of the skin. The rapid change of tissue causes thinning of the outer layer thus revealing deeper layers forming the unsightly appearance of stretch marks.
